A handful of exclusive titles were released straight to Neo Geo CD. A version of the AES that uses CDs instead of cartridges - the Neo Geo CD - was released in 1994. On July 1st, 1991, the console was launched in a different form factor to the home market as the Advanced Entertainment System (AES), becoming the most powerful machine of the fourth generation of consoles. Many people 'consolize' MVS boards to be playable on a home television by either using a JAMMA-based 'supergun' or manually wiring the needed parts. Variants of the arcade console may have 1, 2, 4, or 6 cartridge slots for games that can be chosen by the player.
The console was launched to arcades as the Multi Video System (MVS) in Japan on April 26th, 1990 followed by releases in North America (August 22nd, 1990), and Europe (1991). The Neo Geo is a cartridge-based arcade system from the fourth generation of video game consoles.
